Common Questions

Immigration FAQs

QMy visa application was refused. What can I do?
A refusal is not necessarily the end. Depending on the visa type and grounds of refusal, you may be able to appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT), seek ministerial intervention, or lodge a new application. Time limits apply — contact us as soon as possible after receiving a refusal to understand your options.
QHow long does a partner visa take?
Partner visa processing times vary significantly depending on the visa subclass, your individual circumstances, and current Department of Home Affairs workloads. We can advise you on realistic timeframes for your specific situation and ensure your application is as strong as possible to avoid unnecessary delays.
QCan you help with ministerial intervention?
Yes. In some cases where all other avenues have been exhausted, it may be appropriate to request the Minister for Home Affairs to personally intervene in your case. We assess whether your circumstances may meet the relevant criteria and prepare a compelling submission on your behalf.
QWhat is the AAT and how does it work?
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is an independent body that reviews visa refusal decisions made by the Department of Home Affairs. If your visa application is refused, you may have the right to appeal to the AAT. We prepare your case, gather supporting evidence, and represent you at the hearing.
QDo you assist with citizenship applications?
Yes. We assist with Australian citizenship applications by conferral, including assessing your eligibility, preparing your application, and advising on any complications such as character issues or residency calculation questions.
QI speak Tamil — can I consult in Tamil?
Yes. Shanthi Anandarajah conducts consultations in both English and Tamil. We understand the importance of being able to discuss complex legal matters in your preferred language, and we are proud to serve the Tamil-speaking community across Parramatta and Western Sydney.
QWhat if my visa has been cancelled or I am facing deportation?
Visa cancellation and deportation matters are extremely serious and often time-critical. If you receive a notice of intention to cancel or a cancellation decision, contact us immediately. We can advise on your rights, lodge responses or appeals, and represent you at the AAT or in court if necessary.
